Prayer is one of the special privileges which God grants to His children
here on earth. By His invitation and through the work of Jesus Christ,
we have access to God through prayers. Jesus said:
Matthew 7:7-8, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will
find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks
receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will
be open.
Not only does God's invitation prompt us to prayer, but the needs
in our own lives and the needs in the lives of other motivate us as
well. God has promised:
Psalm 50:15, Call upon Me in the day of trouble ; I will deliver
you, and you will honor Me.
While prayer is always an important part of a Christian's life,
two ministries of intercessory prayer are important in the life of
St. Matthew Lutheran Church:
Prayer Chain
St. Matthew has both a morning and an evening telephone prayer chains
in operation. They receive prayer requests and immediately pass them
on to all members of the chain so that many people can be praying
for a specific concern at one time.
In 1999 an e-mail prayer was also opened within the congregation.
Requests for prayer are communicated through e-mail.
Prayer Group
Being an intercessor before our Lord in prayer is a special ministry
in which you can share. The purpose of the Prayer Group is to pray
for the congregation and its ministry, the needs of individuals, and
for various situations and conditions in our nation and world.
Throughout the year the group meets on Monday mornings at 9:15am
in the conference room.
