JYF - Junior Youth Fellowship

JYF is a Christian group for teens in grades 6-8. Meeting monthly for activities developed by student leaders and the adult advisers, youth members are invited to "attend with a friend."

Church bulletins and newsletter keep everyone up-to-date on the times and locations for fellowship, recreation, and retreat events.

JOY - High School Youth

JOY youth group is an organization specifically designed for high school youth in grades 9 through 12.

The youth program is developed around five major areas: Bible study, fellowship activities, service projects, worship, and recreational activities. Each month a variety of activities and events are planned.

In addition to the youth's involvement on a congregational level, our group also enjoy participating in circuit, district, and synodical youth events.

Although adult sponsors are directly involved, the youth take great pride in the responsibility of organizing and carrying out a large part of the program themselves.

Monthly activities, dates and times, are published in the church Messenger and Sunday bulletin.

Youth Confirmation Program

The Youth Confirmation course is a program of instruction primarily for students in 7th and 8th grade. The program consists of a systematic study of Christian doctrine. The teachings of the Holy Scriptures are studied, organized in six units by such basic topics as: Sin and Grace. . .The Bible. . .The Ten Commandments...The Apostles' Creed. . . Holy Baptism. . .The Lord's Supper. . .Prayer. . .The Office of the Keys. . .Living the Christian Life. . .The Second Coming of Jesus Christ. . .Eternal Life

Classes are conducted at a variety of times throughout the year, including Wednesday afternoons, Saturday mornings, and summer months. The confirmation units are supplemented by projects and sermon studies. Most students complete the requirements of the program in two years, at which time they may elect to become communing members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

In addition to the regular class sessions, Junior High fellowship activities are scheduled to provide students with the opportunity for sociability. The Junior Confirmation program is staffed by the Pastors and the Coordinator of Children's Ministries.
