Meals on Wheels

Barrington Area Meals On Wheels is a community service program that provides nutritious mid-day meals to senior citizens who are unable to cook for themselves. The meals are prepared by Governor's Park under the supervision of a registered nutritionist.

All delivery of meals, program coordination and implementation is done by volunteers. St. Matthew provides drivers two days a month--the second Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month. We strive for each volunteer to only have to drive one day every other month, or approximately six times per year. Each day a volunteer drives requires one and one-half hours. Should you become part of our program, this brief volunteer time will become one of the most gratifying services you will personally experience. The recipients of the meals truly appreciate your time and effort.

New volunteers are always welcome! They will be given "on the job training" and will not be expected to drive until familiar with the program.

Caring Crib

Once a year a crib is used to collect baby items for the Care First Pregnancy Center. These donations include the diapers, bedding, clothes, and small furniture.

St. Matthew's Caring Tree

Every year between the second week in November and the first week of December, St. Matthews creates a Caring Christmas Tree. We collect toys, gifts, food (non-perishable) and cash donations for people and families in need. All items collected are distributed via the Salvation Army. For more information on the Caring Tree, please contact the Church Office at 847-382-7002

September 11th 2002

A civic remembrance program with the Barrington Fire Department was provided for the community. It honored the fire service personnel who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Cookies and coffee were provided in the church basement following the program.
